“An “outside” look on the Homo Europaeus”

The Homo Europaeus in Australia
Mandy Kretzschmar, PhD student

The Australian perception of the European person constitutes the focus of the research project. How communicated, developed and transformed Australians their image of the European? The project follows the Australian debate about the European, his specific characteristics as well as his position in the history of the Fifth Continent. It is concerned to identify the participating actors of the debates, the processes of acceptance and rejection as well as mutual influences of inside and outside perspective on the European. As a time frame, the period between the two world wars (1920s/30s) as well as the period of the Cold War (more precisely 1960s/1970s) have been chosen.
